An emblematic property in an idyllic setting.

Harold Lloyd Estate Show House

This stunning, six-bedroom Palm Springs estate pays a fitting tribute to its legendary namesake, Harold Lloyd, who along with Charlie Chaplin was one of the biggest stars of America’s silent film era. The first home owned by a Hollywood celebrity in this storied neighborhood remains a crown jewel in what is now known as The Movie Colony District.

The estate, situated on more than one acre of lushly landscaped property, is comprised of three structures including a main house, a guest house and a casitas. Combined, the dwellings feature six bedrooms, six bathrooms, 5,097-square-feet of living space and two garage spaces. An outdoor terrace of elegant tile surrounds a saltwater swimming pool and hot tub, with views of the surrounding hills. The poolside kitchenette with bar is perfect for hors d’oeuvres and cocktails and the ample built-in dining table provides an ideal setting for a delicious alfresco feast as the nearby fire pit casts a warming glow.

Meet the Architect

JAMES G. McINTOSH

JMA Architecture, Inc.

James McIntosh, Jimmy Mac as he is called by those who know him, brings more than three decades of experience in high-end architecture in the Coachella Valley and beyond to his role as principal at JMA Architecture. Serving as lead architect and structural engineer, he will also oversee landscape architecture for the Harold Lloyd Estate Show House.

McIntosh enrolled in Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as a structural engineering student after working in the construction industry as a carpenter and certified welder, ultimately graduating with a degree in architecture. He has served as a member of the Palm Desert Architectural Review Commission for more than 12 years.

His work is informed by a background in architecture and structural engineering across residential, industrial and commercial projects. In his role with the Show House, McIntosh will meld the latest in materials, technologies and structural systems to create a balanced and enduring design. Taking advantage of the property’s existing iconic character, he will seamlessly incorporate the unique perspectives of the collaborating designers into a single, cohesive show house.

As a designer, he eschews following an established “style.” He has earned a reputation for devoting time at the beginning of every project to gaining an understanding of his client’s lifestyle, hopes and future goals, as well as budget. McIntosh takes a fresh approach with each project and employs fundamental design principles to create something that addresses the uniqueness of the client as well as the characteristics of the site where the building is going to live.
